The launch of AMPt Community is quickly approaching. You have all been on here "getting to know" the site, interacting, and adding high quality content. Now that it's time to open the doors of AMPt Community to the rest of the world, we need your feedback.
Consider this blog post as a "Suggestion Box" for anything you would like to say about this site from a member's perspective (the most important perspective). Don't hold back... Good, bad, or ugly we need to know what more we can work on and what to focus on to reach the full potential of AMPt Community.
All responses will be shared with the entire AMPt Leadership Group in the form of a discussion forum. This will be extremely helpful in the growth of the site in the coming months.
Thank you for all your help in bringing together this amazing community of mobile photographers. We are all an integral part of this, don't hesitate to embrace it!!
Comment by diet_mar on December 28, 2012 at 9:27am Hey there,
I'm loving this community a lot, I spend a lot of time here and I really enjoy reading all these great tutorials and discussions. As admin of AMPt_Architecture I also really liked that we had and still have this amount of space to play a part in this community. I had the feeling that there's trust in what we do and that helped a lot!
I'm sometimes a bit lost in this cms system, asking myself what's possible to do and what is not. And most of the time I end up with the result that something is not possible to do. But that's not your fault. As for the City Portraits for example I found a solution and Emily helped me a lot with that.
BTW, who is going to approve all of these 550 waiting members? Are you going to sit all Night having a look on all pending users? Or do you approve all at once?
I hope this works out and this is going to be a great community. But I'm pretty sure it will!
Comment by Josh St.Germain @pavingapril on December 28, 2012 at 12:58pm Thanks for responding Martin : ) I too feel a little lost on how to fully utilize the features this site has to offer. There is so much you can do and I think we need to develop a tutorial for new users to get the most out of it. Would you be willing to help develop this tutorial? I've recently noticed the way you've developed the AMPt Architecture Group and I think you could teach us all a thing or two about the capabilities and functionality.
As for the pending user approvals... that's not my department hehe, so I don't know how this will be handled. I'm sure it's been planned out by one of the tech wizards on the team!
Comment by Vincenzo @vdicarmine on December 28, 2012 at 1:24pm Hi there,
I'm really amazed by the amount of talent and creativity I see in this community.
It would be interesting to know more on its members.
On the "Photographers of the week" nomination occasion we could add:
- a kind of "collective interview", one or two day after nomination AMPt members could send questions and the nominated artist could reply during the week in an edited Q&A or alternatively nominated artist may reply to a standard AMPt questionnaire going deeper in the artist style and personality, a sort of "AMPt Photographer of the Week Proust Questionnaire"
- each nominated member could present an "after/before" shot editing tutorial like Erwin Govaerts did
Small issue: if somebody comments a photo how can I reply to him/her so he/she will be aware about the reply ?
Small question: the Hipstamatic group disapeared from the site ?
Otherwise the community photo quality is really great and appreciate the leaders team efforts.
Happy New Year to you all.
Comment by Josh St.Germain @pavingapril on December 28, 2012 at 4:52pm Hi Vincenzo! Thanks for your input, I'll be putting all of these suggestions into a document to show to the leaders group.
As for your questions... If someone comments on your photo, you should receive an email telling you. Also, that person is now "following" your photo and will receive an email anytime another comment is added to that particular photo as long as they haven't turned that feature off in their settings. This works for anywhere you make a comment, you are then "following" the photo/discussion/blog. So, if you were to then comment below their comment on your photo to thank them or reply, they should receive an email telling them that you also commented on the photo. I'm assuming this is what will happen for you when I add a comment to this blog!
I don't know what happened to the Hipstamatic Group, but there's no reason that it can be recreated by a member in the future if there is a demand for it.
Hope this helps! Thanks again. - Josh -
Comment by diet_mar on December 30, 2012 at 5:27am Hey Josh,
of course I'd be willing to help with such a tutorial. I'm on vacation in bavaria (visiting my mother in law) right now and will return on 7th of January. As for now I don't have that much time, but after that I could help with that of course.
On our profile pages we state our main social networks. Sometimes I wish to find a certain user on Instagram for example. Is it possible to let the users state their IDs of other social networks somewhere, or to have a direct link to it?
Comment by Philip Parsons on December 30, 2012 at 3:33pm I'm not sure how to do it, but the 'like' a photo is still a bit clunky for my taste. I like the heart shape at the bottom, but example in the 'latest activity' section it shows photos and I specifically need to open them up to like them. I guess I should be looking at them in larger format anyway... but the same is true when I look at the thumbnails on a persons gallery. I'd like to be able to 'like' them from there.
Are shared galleries possible? I mean for example a photo walk or a collaboration. A single picture could be posted, but attributed to two users.
Also, when I go to an album of mine and select it, I no longer have the option to sorted by latest etc so my most recent photo goes at the end.
Mostly the site is amazing though! Really, really good!
Comment by Jasmin (_jasmin_lee) on December 31, 2012 at 3:08am I love looking at 'before and after' edits, I find it fascinating. It would be great to see a section where members could post photos to compare; either to get feedback about which way to go with an edit, or to demonstrate a before / after process.
Whether this would warrant a section of it's own or not... I don't know, it may be that it could be incorporated into a tutorials section. Or perhaps curated, with members submitting before & after shots to be considered. Maybe here or in the FB group... I don't know, just some random thoughts.
Comment by Josh St.Germain @pavingapril on December 31, 2012 at 12:27pm Martin, thanks for offering to help with a future group tutorial! As for the direct link, I'll investigate the possibility and see if it can happen. I think it's a good idea!
Phillip, the liking system and similar aspects will be tweaked as time goes on. Thanks for the feedback, it's little things like that, that make a big difference in a users experience on here. As for the shared albums question... You can use the tagging feature of photos to group things together and see them all in one place. It functions like Flickr so you just type your tag (no hash needed) ex. "photowalk" or "photo_walk" and then use a comma to separate any other tags you wish to use. This is an under used feature of the site and I'd love to see it promoted more by members to be used in the way you are describing.
Jasmin, I think that's a great idea that may be most successful on Facebook like you mentioned. We can then use this site and others to help promote the project. I'll put that on my FB idea list since I'm on the FB team : )

Comment by Jasmin (_jasmin_lee) on December 31, 2012 at 9:18pm Is there a way to get notifications on the site? I guess as I become more familiar it will be easier to navigate but at the moment I'm responding to notifications through the link in my email - this is fine if there's just one, but if it's a couple then it loads a new page each time. It would be really helpful if notifications in one place on the site as well.
It could be that it exists but I haven't found it yet?...

I guess a discussion about Oggl is appropriate in the Hipstamatic category, since they are brother aps, or weird cousins or something. Has anybody been trying it out the last couple of weeks?A few quick observations from me, I've been using it all…Continue

Has anyone replaced vsco with the ag app? I love vsco but it takes so long to save, the russ filter is close to vsco's number 5 which is my favorite and with a little fade I can get it close. Just curious...Continue
